Six Hours. One Folder. Everything He Is.
Jason Clarke spent two weeks preparing for this appointment.
Not thinking about it. Preparing. A folder. Printed reference images. Handwritten tabs. Notes on specific issues, specific panels, specific reasons each one mattered. He went through it twice in the car on the way uptown — not explaining it to Rami, just rehearsing.
Chapter 14 of Hold Fast is Luca’s studio in Midtown, no sign on the door, second floor above a restaurant supply store. Six hours in a chair. A comic book sleeve that starts with Green Lantern #76 and ends with Wonder Woman #750 and says everything about who Jason Clarke is becoming without using a single word that isn’t already on the page.
Rami sits in the corner and watches.
He is not naturally good at sitting in corners. But this isn’t his appointment, and he knows it, and he stays there — until hour three, when Jason’s eyes move across the room looking for him.
Not panicked. Not asking to stop.
Just looking.
What happens next is two steps to the left. And it’s the quietest, most important thing Rami Moretti does in this entire chapter.
